Ryan Rush DDS PLLC

What should I do if I have a toothache?

If you have a toothache, call us, and we will arrange to see you as soon as possible. Our Fort Collins emergency dentist understands how difficult it is to deal with any tooth pain and wants to provide relief as quickly as possible.

Why You Have a Toothache

Toothaches are generally the result of inflammation of the dental pulp, the tooth's innermost layer where its nerves are located. There are several reasons why pulp becomes and inflamed and results in a toothache:

  • Tooth decay
  • Cracked tooth
  • Broken tooth
  • Root infection
  • Damaged or broken fillings

We will take digital x-rays to determine the cause of your toothache and plan the appropriate treatment. In most cases, a toothache results from a cavity, and Dr. Rush would recommend a tooth filling to resolve it.

If he discovers a root canal infection, he will do what is necessary to get you out of pain and then plan root canal treatment for our next open appointment. Depending on the nature of a cracked or broken tooth, there are several treatment approaches that may be appropriate, and Dr. Rush will discuss these with you.
