Dental Exams and Cleanings

We follow the American Dental Association's recommendation that everyone schedule dental exams and teeth cleanings every six months. During these appointments, we'll check your teeth and gums for cavities and gum disease and plan prompt treatment if needed.

Tooth-Colored Fillings

Our tooth-colored fillings are made of composite resin that offers several benefits. It's a durable material, and the process we use to place them allows us to preserve more healthy tooth structure than silver fillings. Composite fillings also closely resemble tooth enamel and can be color-matched to the unique shade of your teeth for a seamless appearance.

Frequently Asked Questions

General dentistry keeps your smile healthy and functional, while cosmetic dentistry focuses on making it look as amazing as it feels. Both are important and often work together to give you the best results.

General Dentistry: The Foundation of a Healthy Smile

General dentistry is like the maintenance crew for your teeth and gums. Common treatments include cleanings, fillings, root canals, and extractions. These treatments tackle issues like cavities and gum disease, so your smile stays strong and healthy. General dentistry gives you the solid foundation for a lifetime of healthy grins.

Cosmetic Dentistry: The Finishing Touch

Cosmetic dentistry focuses on the aesthetics of your smile. We use treatments like teeth whitening, veneers, bonding, and clear aligners to correct discoloration, chips, gaps, or crooked teeth. While many cosmetic procedures have functional perks, the main goal is to help you feel confident and excited to show off your smile.

Why Choose Between Them? Have Both!

You don’t have to pick between form and function with Dr. Ryan Rush. General dentistry can keep your smile healthy, and cosmetic dentistry can give your smile a wow factor. Contact us today to learn more or schedule a consultation. Let’s work together to create a strong and stunning smile!

Most patients know occlusal guards by the name night guards, an oral appliance that’s prescribed to protect teeth against bruxism and grinding forces during sleep.

Bruxism affects all ages; sometimes it’s related to stress or anxiety, but crooked or missing teeth or an uneven dental bite can make you more prone to teeth grinding than others.

Since bruxism occurs involuntarily, most people aren’t aware that they are grinding their teeth. The result is significant dental wear and breakdown, but our dentist can diagnose teeth grinding by the wear and tear on your teeth.

How an Occlusal Guard Helps Bruxism

An occlusal guard or night guard is worn while you sleep and acts as a cushion so the grinding and clenching motions don’t damage your teeth. Wearing the guard also gives your TMJ or jaw joint a chance to rest and recover during the night.

Some common symptoms of teeth grinding or bruxism to be aware of are:

  • Worn teeth
  • Fractured teeth
  • Jaw pain
  • Chronic headaches
  • Tooth sensitivity
  • Facial pain
  • Cracked teeth

Need a Night Guard for Teeth Grinding?

If you have any of the symptoms of bruxism, please let Dr. Rush know at your next appointment. He will prescribe a custom-made occlusal guard that will protect your teeth and jaw joints and relieve your pain.

Please call our Fort Collins dental office to schedule an appointment.

DDS stands for Doctor of Dental Surgery. Dentists earn this degree after completing dental school and are licensed to diagnose, treat, and prevent oral health conditions. Dr. Ryan Rush holds a DDS degree and provides comprehensive dental care for patients in Fort Collins and the surrounding areas.

Gum Disease Treatment

Gums that are red, swollen, or bleed when you brush are common signs of gum infection, which we call gingivitis or periodontal disease. Prompt treatment with a thorough teeth cleaning is often enough to reverse the disease, so contact us as soon as you notice these symptoms. If we don't address it promptly, it will progress and eventually affect the bones and ligaments that support your teeth. With prompt treatment, we can eliminate gingivitis and protect your smile.

Dental Crowns and Bridges

Dental crowns protect and restore broken teeth, and bridges replace missing teeth. Both return your mouth to a healthy state and restore comfortable chewing function. Our crowns and bridges are customized to match surrounding teeth and blend into your smile seamlessly.

Root Canals

dentist in fort collinsAn infected tooth can be quite painful, but root canal treatment provides fast relief. Since Dr. Rush uses potent local anesthetics and leading-edge rotary endodontic technology, we can ensure you won't experience any pain and have a comfortable, efficient procedure.

Tooth Extraction

If you need tooth extraction due to severe decay, infection, or disease, we'll ensure you have a comfortable, stress-free experience. And as soon as you're ready, we'll help you choose the tooth replacement that's right for you.

Dental Implants

Tooth loss impacts your smile, dental health, and normal daily activities, such as chewing and eating the foods you love. At our Fort Collins dental office, Dr. Rush can guide you through the process of replacing one or multiple teeth with dental implants from start to finish. You can always feel at ease working with the team you know and trust!

TMJ Pain Relief

TMJ pain and teeth grinding can lead to painful symptoms like jaw, head, and neck pain, but Dr. Rush can customize a nightguard that you wear over your teeth during sleep. The guard gives your jaw joint a chance to rest as it acts as a barrier against the forces of teeth grinding that cause dental wear and fractured teeth.

General Dentistry Technology

Digital X-Rays & Digital Sensors

There are several reasons why Dr. Rush has chosen to use state-of-the-art digital x-rays at our Fort Collins dental office. One of the most important is that they minimize our patients' radiation exposure; some estimates indicate about 80 percent less exposure than traditional film x-rays. Instead of the bulky x-ray film that you may be used to, leading-edge digital sensors fit comfortably in your mouth and capture highly detailed images of your teeth that we can share with you on your chairside monitor.

The images obtained with digital x-rays provide a high-resolution view of your teeth, that our dentist uses to diagnose conditions and plan your treatment. Digital x-rays don’t require any chemical processing as traditional films do, making them healthier for you and safer for our environment.

Panoramic X-Rays

We use routine dental x-rays to see what we can’t see with a visual exam. However, sometimes it’s beneficial for Dr. Rush to view your entire mouth in a single image. In this case, he would recommend a panoramic dental x-ray.

Dr. Rush commonly recommends panoramic images to diagnose the following conditions:

  • Jaw joint problems (TMD)
  • Impacted wisdom teeth
  • Advanced gum disease
  • Sinusitis
  • Cysts in the jawbone
  • Tumors and oral cancer

Panoramic are also beneficial for patients who can’t tolerate intraoral (in the mouth) x-rays, because they are taken outside the mouth (extra-orally).
