If you need to replace one or two missing teeth, you have more options than you might think! Dental bridges, implants, and partial dentures are all great options and work for patients with a wide range of needs.

While implants offer many benefits, they’re not right for everyone. Some patients don’t want to wait for months, and others are not good candidates because certain conditions put them at greater risk for implant failure.

4 Signs You May Need a Dental Bridge

If you have any of the following conditions, your dentist in Fort Collins may determine that you are a better candidate for a dental bridge.

You Have Gum Disease

Patients with gum disease will need to have the issue treated and resolved before they can consider dental implants. Uncontrolled gum disease Your dental hygienist will work with you to re-establish gum health and then see if you are better suited for a dental bridge or implant.

You Smoke, Chew Tobacco, or Vape

Smoking or chewing tobacco puts you at high risk for implant failure due to slow wound healing. The best solution is to quit, but that’s not realistic for some people, and they may opt for a dental bridge instead.

You Have Diabetes

Slow wound healing that increases the risk of infection is also a problem for patients with diabetes who want dental implants. Your general dentist in Fort Collins may recommend a dental bridge as it is non-invasive and may be a safer choice for you.

You Take Certain Medications

Steroids like prednisone that suppress the immune system, serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), and bone-density drugs (bisphosphonates) all increase the risk of implant failure. When your dentist reviews your medications, they will tell you if you are a better candidate for a dental bridge.
